I did a thing.

Updated: Oct 14, 2019

We all had childhood dreams. Some of us wanted to be an astronaut. Some of us wanted to be President. Others wanted to be race car drivers or something equally as thrilling. I, like many, started playing video games as a kid and as a consequence decided I wanted to make them as well.

Anybody who has been down the path of indie game development knows the challenges. Learning how to do all the technical tasks involved in making a game is just the beginning. Code, graphics, and sound are all disciplines in their own right. Then you need to learn about meaningful game play, narratives, and artistic continuity. I won't even go into the business side of making games as it's a different animal altogether. After you have learned all of these things you get to face the greatest mountain of the process: yourself. In talking to others and in my own experience one of the hardest tasks is to actually finish a game from the beginning to the end. Going any further than mentioning this is a rabbit hole unto itself.

I mention the above because of where I am now. Fast forward a few years from the initial "I'm gonna make video games when I grow up :)" moment (or decades as the case may be for some of us (like me)), and here I am, having founded a studio and making an attempt to live the childhood dream. I have been in full production of a game for six months and am looking at a release date of (take your bets) about nine months from now. This is happening. For better or for worse and it's about time.

I guess a more apt title for this initial post would be I am doing my thing.
